How do I buy tickets?

The easiest way to purchase tickets is right here online. Browse our upcoming events to find the right show for you. Then click Buy Tickets, where you pick the exact date and time you’d like to attend. You can even choose your seats!
Tickets can also be purchased over the phone at (660) 385-2924 or in person at our Box Office, staffed most days from 10:00 AM till 2:00PM or up to curtain time on show days.

Where is Maples Repertory Theatre?

Directions: Maples Repertory Theatre is a theatre company housed in the historic Royal Theatre building at 102 N. Rubey St., Macon, MO 63552. This is in downtown Macon, just a few blocks from the Rt 63/Rt 36 intersection (see map)

Can I bring my kids?

Children are welcome! MRT offers not only main stage shows but also special youth theatre productions, so see our schedule. Tickets for children and students are discounted. Although we offer family-friendly shows throughout the season, please be aware that some shows are more appropriate for kids than others, and some may have adult themes and content young children will not understand. Check our show descriptions for age recommendations.

Where should we sit?

Seats are assigned for most events at MRT. But no worries! The Royal Theatre is an intimate theatre experience – the view is great from all over the theatre and balcony. Frequently patrons return to see the same show more than once in order to enjoy the sets and staging from alternate perspectives in the theatre. There are discounts for children, students, and balcony seats. You can choose where you’d like to sit when you purchase your tickets.

What should we wear?

Going to the theatre can be a great excuse to dress up, but everyday, casual clothes are just fine at our shows as well. Feel free to wear something comfortable but you may need a sweater if you tend to get chilly. MRT embraces a black tie to tie-dye dress code. You be you.

How early should we arrive?

The lobby opens about an hour before performances. You can enter anytime after that, but 15-20 minutes ahead of show time is about perfect. The lobby of the Royal Theatre is spacious and welcoming, and fun to tour. When you come in, you can check in at the Box Office if you need to pick up tickets or snacks, locate the restrooms, and sit at one of the seating areas around the lobby till the theatre itself opens for seating, about 30 minutes before curtain time.

Where should I park?

Free street parking and some marked handicapped spaces are available near the Royal Theatre, as designated and supervised by the City of Macon. At the front entrance to the theatre lobby and box office there is a convenient drop-off area so that if needed, passengers can get out at the theatre and a driver can proceed to nearby parking. Besides street parking, there are three free city lots within two blocks walking distance. We recommend arriving a bit early, especially on weekends and for matinee performances, to allow time for parking and seating.

The first lot is one block west of the theatre on the corner of Rollins and Oak Street, beside the Ben Franklin store.
The second lot is behind the Ben Franklin store.
The closest lot is one block north of the theatre on the corner of Rubey and Bourke St.

What if I arrive late?

Sometimes the best laid plans go awry and life happens – we understand. If you are late, our volunteer ushers will show you into the theatre at the next appropriate pause, or let you know if you can enter immediately. It’s always a matter of getting you in as quickly as possible without interrupting a critical moment in a performance.

What's your cell phone policy?

Please plan to have your phone, smart watch, etc. on silent or in theatre mode during MRT performances. Audio and video recording are not allowed at MRT shows due to copyright laws and out of respect for the performers and your fellow audience members. Thank you so much for your cooperation!

Do I need to know about the show before I get there?

Nope! One of the great things about live theatre is the surprise of discovery! However, feel free to read our show descriptions or look up more about the play or musical on the Internet if you are curious OR concerned. Are group discounts available?

Yes! Groups of 12 or more receive special pricing and priority seating. We also offer flexible payment options and free motorcoach parking. MRT is a frequent destination for groups and bus trips and we’re accustomed to having you here. Is the Royal Theatre accessible?

Audiences enjoy the historic Royal Theatre which seats 329 and includes a spacious lobby for special activities. MRT aims to make live theatre available and accessible to everyone in the community. Our space is accessible – there are NO stairs at the main entrance to the theatre, lobby, restrooms, or box office. The restrooms are welcoming, not just ADA compliant. We’ve heard more than one patron using a walker gasp in delight at the spacious, convenient restroom facilities. During 2020-21, renovations and new seating resulted in flexible spaces to better accommodate audience wheelchairs in the theatre itself. Assistive listening devices are available upon request.

We offer a large number of staffed box office hours each week so that anyone with questions about accessibility or details about tickets and shows is likely to get an informed person on the phone on the first try. Don’t hesitate to call us if you have special needs or questions!

Maples Repertory Theatre is at the crossroads of American storytelling, right on the Route 36 tourism corridor in northern Missouri, known as “The Way of American Genius,” which runs about 260 miles between Hannibal and St. Joseph. It celebrates not only storytelling, but also innovation and history, featuring sites related to Walt Disney, Mark Twain, the Pony Express, J.C. Penney, the inventor of sliced bread, and more.
